Product Care Staining Much like granite, concrete is a porous material. Your concrete is sealed before it leaves our studio. This treatment makes it stain resistant, not stain proof.  Spills, especially of an acidic nature (lemon juice, red wine and vinegar), should be cleaned up promptly to avoid etching and/or staining. After years of use, stains and blemishes will provide a subtle patina that enhances the character and adds to the beauty of your countertops.  Scratching Does concrete make a good cutting surface?  It does not hurt the concrete, but it will dull your knives and can compromise the integrity of some sealers.  In many instances, we recommend an integral cutting board station which maintains functionality while adding an interesting design feature. Heat Can I sit hot pots and pans directly on the concrete?  Ya, if you live in a BARN, but seriously it is not recommended.  It will not damage the concrete in any way, but it can discolor or damage the wax and/or sealer.  If this does happen, it can be easily reapplied or repaired.  When considering the design we often recommend integral trivets near the stove to add interest and provide a place to sit hot pots and pans with no adverse effects. Cracking Does concrete crack?  Non structural, hairline cracks can appear over time.  This is caused by the concrete shrinkage due to curing as well as the heating and cooling of the concrete.  These cracks are barely noticeable and generally add to the character of the concrete.  Our guarantee promises that if our concrete has structural cracks due to failure of the material, we will replace it at no charge. Cleaning Normal household cleaning is sufficient for maintaining your concrete.  Use a mild, nonabrasive, non-ammonia soap.  We recommend Simple Green.  Whatever you decide to use, it is a good idea to test it first in an inconspicuous area.  Avoid using abrasive pads. Resealing How do I reseal my concrete to provide years of performance? We offer a variety of sealers and are always working with the latest technology in sealers to improve the performance of our product. Our most popular sealer is non-toxic, locally made and easy to apply. We work with you to pick out an appropriate sealer for each project that best suits its expected demands. Directions on how to reapply the sealer will come with the finished product. We do not use topical sealers like polyurethanes or epoxies because they are difficult to reapply and detract from the inherent beauty of the material.
